Social Media Safety

Being safe on the internet is something that all parents strive for when they let their kids join social media. Communicating that message to your children can be incredibly hard because they do not understand the dangers that are out there when it comes to sharing too much information online. We have outlined 10 tips for you and your children to review to stay safe when being on the popular platform known as TikTok.

  1. Privacy: Ensure your profile and content is set to private and only share it with trusted friends and family.
  2. Personal information: Do not share any personal information like your full name, address, phone number, school, or bank details.
  3. Interactions: Be cautious of who you interact with and only accept friend requests from people you know.
  4. Cyberbullying: If you encounter any negative of hurtful comments, block the user and report the behavior to TikTok.
  5. Creative Commons: Respect copyright laws and only use content that you have permission to share.
  6. Content: Be mindful of the content you post and make sure it is appropriate for your age and the platform.
  7. Parental Controls: Utilize TikTok’s parental controls to restrict access to certain content and limit screen time.
  8. Online Strangers: Do not meet with anyone you have met online without a parent or guardian present.
  9. Suspicious Messages: If you receive any suspicious messages, do not respond and report them immediately.
  10. Educate Yourself: Stay informed about online safety and educate yourself and your friends on the risks associated with social media.

By following these tips, kids can enjoy TikTok safely and responsibly. Remember to always be mindful of your actions and stay informed about online safety.
